Whitney Mire
Whitney has loved horses since a very young age, and was finally privileged enough to begin working with them in her late teens. After many years learning to ride in a hunter-jumper program, and working as a stable hand, and barn manager, she and her husband bought a small farm near Spruce Grove, Alberta, which they ran as a boarding facility for nearly ten years. After they sold the farm in 2021, Whitney began a journey of deep spiritual growth and learning. She couldn't stay away from horses long though, and began to look for a way to combine personal development with horses. She completed her Equine Assisted Personal Development Coach certification with EAL Canada in May of 2023, and continues to seek out opportunities for growth and expansion in the field of equine assisted learning,
Meet The Horses
Elizabeth
The younger of the two members of our equine team, Elizabeth is a petite mare, possibly of quarter-horse descent. She is a beautiful red dun, with stunning leg markings and a dorsal stripe. It took her some time to warm up to Whitney, including some days at -30 degrees where it took over an hour to get a halter on her! She is learning to trust though, and now comes and stands willingly for her halter.
We know almost nothing about Elizabeth's past before she came to us in September of 2022. She was born around 2016, and may have been used as a broodmare earlier in life. She was sold as part of a trade with another horse, then sold again within 6 weeks, as the new owner wanted the other horse, but not her. Whitney bought her for a rock-bottom price, with no expectations of her, just looking to reconnect with horses. She is not currently a riding horse, though that may come with time.
Erika
Erika is the older horse of the pair. Born in 1996, she was trained as a show-jumping horse, and even showed at Spruce Meadows in her younger days. Whitney began riding her when she was about 9 years old, and bought her when she was 11. While they did not do much showing together, Erika was fantastic in the 3' jumpers. Never fond of living in a stall, she had a reputation around the barn for being "crazy", though she mellowed considerably when kept on 24/7 turnout.

Always a very "hot" horse to ride, Erika has a fiery personality to match her coloring, even in her old age!

After years of jumping, arthritis began to take its toll on her knees, and she has been retired from riding completely since she was 18 years old. Erika worked very hard for many years, and has more than earned that retirement.
